Turning Your Miles Into Trees: How the REACH GREEN Virtual Challenge Works

The 10K Miles: 10K Trees Virtual Challenge is more than a fitness goal, it’s a way to turn everyday miles into a real, measurable impact. For every mile logged in October, REACH GREEN will fund the planting of a tree through our partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation. Move for a cause by planting trees and supporting a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. One community, moving together, can help restore forests and protect the green spaces we all depend on.

Why a virtual challenge?
Big in-person events can be inspiring, but they also cost a lot to produce. REACH GREEN is dedicated to promoting eco-friendly fitness challenges that empower our community to turn healthy activities into meaningful support for the environment and green spaces. Instead of putting important dollars into one event in one place, we’re creating community-driven initiatives, starting with our first Virtual Challenge — that invites anyone, anywhere, to participate and move for the environment. The goal is simple: build a grassroots movement that bridges the gap between health and fitness and environmental impact.

How it works.
Registration is free. Once you sign up at https://runsignup.com/Race/MA/Boston/reachgreen10kmiles10ktreesvirtual, all you need to do is log your activity throughout the month of October by running, walking, riding, swimming, or moving in whatever way works best for you. Already active? Every mile you log on our platform helps fund tree planting and promote green space sustainability, adding to the community total of 10,000 miles and 10,000 trees planted.

Why it matters.
Reforestation and planting trees are two of the most effective solutions for building healthier communities. They clean our air cool our cities, and strengthen our neighborhoods. They also provide relevant results that participants can see and feel making neighborhoods more attractive and livable. In addition to great places to exercise, trees and green spaces create welcoming areas for recreation, families to relax and have social events. By joining, you’re not only staying active, you’re directly contributing to reforestation and tree planting projects that improve lives and landscapes.

Community power.
The REACH GREEN 10k Miles: 10K Trees Virtual Challenge is also about building connections and inspiring others to join. Participants from across the country are forming teams with friends, clubs, and co-workers. Friendly competition fuels motivation and supports environmental wellness, while sharing your progress on social media with #REACHforGREEN inspires others to join the movement. Teams can see their progress towards mileage goals growing together, proving that collective action together can add up to have a major impact.

A cause worth moving for.
The challenge gives every participant the opportunity to making a positive impact on the planet and their community. Whether you’re running for purpose, riding with friends, swimming laps, or walking daily in your neighborhood, every mile logged helps support tree planting and green space sustainability. Your effort matters, not only for your own health and fitness, but also for creating greener and more resilient communities. As Runner’s World explains, running (and riding, swimming, or walking) for a cause makes training more meaningful and builds motivation, and connects you to a larger community of eco-conscious athletes.
